Chapter 1: Friends Visit
Violet skimmed through the pages of her book. She got bored so she closed the book with a thud.
She had read the book half a dozen time and she was tired of reading it again.
She clapped her hands once and a book appeared out of thin air. She looked at the title and smiled.
She was about to open the book when her mother called her, "Vi! Come down and eat your food!" Violet groaned. She got up from her desk and dragged her feet down the stairs.
The hallway of the cottage was smelling with the aroma of ........"Candy Balls!" Violet shouted.
"What?!" Benjer shouted back. He jumped down the stairway but lost his balance and tumbled down. He looked up and grinned. "So, how was that?" he asked. Violet threw him a look of disgust. "Benjer Jones, you have broken my favorite vase. One more time you do that, you will be out of the house," Cheryl told him. Benjer hung his head in disappointment and walked towards the dining table.
But just as he saw the candy ball, he squealed with delight. He was about to eat it but Cheryl stopped him and asked him to go and wash his hands. "I am going to eat the chocolate flavored with sprinkles on top, candy ball!" Benjer said childishly. "No. I am going to eat that one. It is my favorite. You will have to eat the vanilla-flavored with chocolate syrup", Violet sternly argued with her little brother. Benjer stomped his foot and yelled "No!" very loudly. Violet glared at him as he showed his tantrum. "Why are you such an idiot?!" Violet shouted at him. This made Benjer cry. Violet glared at Benjer as he exhibited his terrible tantrum.
"What is going on?" Cheryl asked. She had an angry frown on her face with her brow creased, she pursed her lips at the state of behavior Benjer was displaying. "Mind you attitude, Benjer," she said, looking at Benjer with disgust. "Violet called me an idiot!" Benjer screamed. Cheryl angrily looked at Violet.
Violet tried to protest. "Well you know I always eat the chocolate flavored with sprinkles candy ball and Benjer eats the vanilla-flavored with chocolate syrup one. Then why did he change his mind to eat my one today?"
"People may have a different taste anytime and I made the candy balls so they are mine not yours. Benjer, stop crying darling. I will let you choose the candy ball you want to eat. If that will stop you from crying dear," Cheryl said. "That is unfair!" Violet screamed."Enough Violet! Mind your manners! Stop acting like a baby," Cheryl reprimanded Violet.
Tears welled up in Violet's eyes and they rolled down her rosy cheeks like rivulets. Life was so unfair for her nowadays. She ran to her room and slammed the door with a thud. She contemplated the event that just occurred. That just made her cry even more. She hugged her pillow and looked at her room like she never did before. Her desk was filled with books she has gotten from her grandparents. The book she had magicked earlier on was still there, untouched.
It was titled "Adventasy". In other words, Adventure + Fantasy.
She loved reading those type of books as it related towards her. She had no idea how did she get magic powers. She had no idea she had magic powers until she was one. She had accidentally sent a flower vase flying through the air and it landed directly in the middle of the dining table.
She pointed her finger at it and Boom! It had just happened. She had guessed that she has gotten magic powers from her favorite Aunt Em.
Aunt Em was a very close relative of the Jones. She was a kind and beautiful young lady. She also had magic powers like Violet. She said that she had gotten magic powers from an angel after asking her to teach her magic in a magical land. Violet loved Aunt Em but at that point of time she had trouble believing her favorite aunt. But Violet focused her mind on something else that her aunt had told her.
Her aunt always used to speak about this magical land she wanted to go in. Where magical creatures had evolved. Violet thought it was preposterous for such a land to exist. The weird thing was that, a few days later, she disappeared mysteriously. That thing pierced Violet in her heart. She missed her favorite family member so badly.
Then there was a shelf filled with things she had collected from all these years living in a forest. There were crafts she had made from twigs and branches and stones. There were memories of her favorite moments in framework. Most of them included Aunt Em and her. There were also a few posters of her 3 most favorite bands, Morning stars, Night eye and Best Jaydon. She knew all their star-winning songs from heart. Living in a forest meant that she had very little things to do. So she used to listen to their songs in her free time on the radio ever since she was young. They did not have the privilege of any modern electronics, like smartphones or televisions.
Suddenly, a thought came into her mind. She could go exploring! Whenever she was upset she would go exploring out in the forest. She jumped from her bed and grabbed her purple rucksack. She went to her dressing table and opened a shelf below a chest of drawers. That was where she had kept her most prized possessions. She even took the book 'Adventasy'. Now all she needed were a few bottles of water and some healthy snacks.
Just then, the door opened and her mother entered the room. Seeing her mother made her explode in her mind. She avoided direct contact with her mother. "I see you are going exploring later", Cheryl remarked. Violet did not answer. "Look, I had to stop Benjer from crying. I will make you another candy ball." But Violet was not going to be convinced. "I had enough problems today. So there is no need for sympathy," Violet just said. She carried her rucksack and looked at her mother. "Benjer is more important," with that, she went out, leaving her mother heartbroken.
Oh! Hello Dad! How was the market sale? Violet greeted her father. "Hello Vi. Good, I suppose," replied her father. Arkinson Jones wore a blue shirt made of silk. His travelling coat hung on the flowery couch. Arkinson had light brown hair which Benjer had also. His black eyes always had a twinkle, making him very noticeable. The brown pants he was wearing was slightly drenched. "Dad, was it raining in the city?" Violet asked. Arkinson nodded. Seeing the documents in his hand made Violet feel he was busy.
Suddenly there was a rap on the front door. Violet went to see who it was. "Surprise!" Rahul and Emma cried. Rahul and Emma were Violet's childhood and best friends. Since young, they had always been together. "You naughty kids!" Why couldn't you inform me earlier!?" Violet laughed. The three hugged each other.
"Arc! How are you? Hello Cheryl!?" Julia Craslod, Emma's mother, asked Cheryl. "Julia! Neeta! Ramesh and Tom! What a pleasure to the heart!" Cheryl exclaimed. The three mothers sat down at the dining table and became deeply engaged in conversation with a few snacks to contribute.
Emma's twin siblings, Sarah and Sarol, were jumping excitedly. Rahul's younger sister, Rita, went to meet Benjer together with Sarah and Sarol. Both rahul and Emma had their explorer ruck-sacks too. It seemed like all three of them had the same idea. They informed their parents about their plan and went outside the brick cottage and into the thick forest.
